About Us

"The Present is the living sum-total of the whole Past." - Thomas Carlyle

Cauldon Ceramics owes its existence to Zamir Shaikh, who founded the company in February 2005.

He had little time for hobbies, but put his creativity and artistic skills into the business. One of his trademarks was the embossed logo on the front of the teapot. He enjoyed developing ideas such as the gold polka dot teapot and the "helping hand" on the ten cup teapot.

Zamir had 40 years of experience within the pottery industry. He qualified with a B.Sc in Ceramics in 1968 and followed up with I.P.C qualification from the Institute of Production Control. After working as Technical manager with British Industrial Sands, for 10 years, Zamir started up his own Ceramics manufacturing business, Caledonia Pottery, in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. One of the pottery products he manufactured was the ‘Brown Betty Teapot’ which over the years emerged as the companies’ number one selling product.

Zamir sold Caledonia Pottery in 2004, and in 2005 he founded  Cauldon Ceramics, to exclusively manufacture Brown Betty Teapots and accessories. Sales grew steadily over the next 11 years. He exported his products to many countries overseas including the USA, Canada, and Japan.

Sadly in late 2016 Zamir passed away after a period of ill health.

Knowing how passionate he was about the business and the products, his wife, Salma Christabell (who was also involved in the business), was keen to ensure that it continued.

In January 2017 Salma Christabell sold the company to the present owner Stephen Murray. Stephen is very grateful to Zamir for creating Cauldon Ceramics and building the business into the International success it has become.
